Hirini Reedy
Hirini Reedy is a man of many experiences. He has been a soldier, a peacekeeper, a businessman, a healer and a bushman. One of Maoridom's best unknown teachers who uses natural spaces and concrete places to teach and learn. Founder of Aio Koa, a maori inner-martial art that uses the natural environment and seasons as teachers of mind, muscle and movement. Responsible for introducing Maori weaponry skills into New Zealand Army recruit training. Has worked with the Governor General (Head of New Zealand) through to living in a cave and bush for 9 months. Has traveled to USA, Pacific, South Asia and Europe to learn and connect with spiritual things. Passionate about the whole world becoming the initiation ground for today's youth who will become the new guardians of the planet. We must start to create new ceremonies, technologies and ideologies that weaves the past into the present as a living cloak for the future. The youth will be the bearers and wearers of whatever we weave today.
Has a Masters in Philosophy, a Bachelor (Hons) in Engineering plus some other qualifications that are collecting dust somewhere. Proudest academic achievement was as an 8 year old when he sketched and built a wobbly kennel for his sheepdog Hape. Hirini grew up at the foot of the sacred mountain Hikurangi where he learnt much of his Maori knowledge. Yet like many others of his tribe, he just sees himself as another Maori who has some gifts to share. No different to you.
