Shorts Stand Tall at the Zaki Gordon
Shorts Film Festival

May 26-28, 2006 - Sedona, Arizona

Once again the students have raised the bar and challenged themselves. Serving a strong shorts program, the class of 2006 will capture your hearts, minds and imagination at the popular student film festival in Sedona, Arizona.

Traditionally the film festival has served as an exhibition of Zaki Gordon Institute graduates' thesis films. This is the second year the film festival has accepted submissions from high school students. "It is our way of supporting and encouraging young filmmakers," said Lori Schultze, producer of the film festival. "To have so many projects submitted has certainly added to this years film festival experience."

Yavapai College's Sedona Center for Arts & Technology is prepared for a large crowd with three screening rooms that include big screens and surround sound. Concessions will be at hand and Starbucks is donating all the basics to keep the buzz going.

As always the screening line up is covering many topics and genres. This years documentaries explore a debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, a day in the life of a woman in Fiji, a portrait of a woman of the Blackfeet Nation and a journey around the world witnessing how different cultures dance and play. Narrative films explore storytelling through drama, comedy, horror, fantasy and science fiction. In two days more than 30 short films will screen. An exciting addition to the programming includes the new advanced certificate students' presentation of the "35mm Project" sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company.

Proceeds from the film festival support future screenings for the new filmmakers. To volunteer for the film festival May 26th-28th, 2006 e-mail Lori Schultze (lori_schultze@yc.edu)
