was born in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. In 1979 he joined the prestigious Gaden Shartse Norling College in Mundgod, Karnataka, India and embarked on an extended course of Buddhist studies. There he studied under the guidance of the great masters Ven. Khensur Lobsang Choepel (ex-abbot Shartse College); His Eminence Kyabje Khensur Lati Rinpoche (abbot emeritus Shartse College).

is an anthropologist and photographer specializing in the study of sacred sites and pilgrimage traditions around the world. Traveling as a pilgrim, Martin spent twenty years, visiting and photographing over 1000 sacred sites in eighty countries.
