Mental, One-Line CalculationThe Indians have an ancient system of Clairvoyant Mathematics claiming that they can literally "see" the "shape" of the Answer to any Problem, like 106 x 108. The highest Sutra or Formula of all the 16 possible Sutras, is called "Vilokanam" which means, "By mere Intuition" or "By Mere Observation". Just by looking at the Question: What is 106 x 108" they can see the answer within one second. In some cases, the answer is not resolved mentally, so it must be written down, but only by using one line of working out. So these Yogis, 2,000 years ago, had intellectual contests or spiritual games of outwitting one another with mathematical "Shortcuts". It was the spiritual head of India: Bharati Krsna Tirthaji, (1884-1960) who reconstructed all the knowledge from the time of Buddha circa BC500 and evolved it into Mental, One-Line Arithmetic that we are just catching onto today. So to solve 106 x 108, think of the Base 100 and consider only how much these 2 numbers are above the Base of 100. As soon as I mentally flag those two excesses of 6 and 8, I have my answer instantly, by adding the 6 to the other number 108, making it 108 + 6, and by multiplying those two deficiencies which is 6 x 8, and viola, there is the magical, instant, mental answer: 106 x 108 = 108 + 6 / 6 x 8 = 114 / 48 =11,448. (Definition By Jain, 2005) Vedic Philosophy According to the spiritual head of India, Bharati Krsna Tirthaji (1884-1960) the "Vedas" are "the illimitable storehouse of all Knowledge". This meant that you had to become accomplished in many fields of Knowledge. There was no such thing as just a Vedic Mathematician, you also had to study the Vedas of the Stars and Astronomy, you had to know the AyurVeda (Ayur means "Life") which is knowledge of Medicine and Healing; and the Vedas of Music, and Engineering and the Art of Cooking etc. Knowledge of the Vedas evolved you into a Total Being. Some scholars believe that when Atlantis fell, when the Oceans rose only the mountain-top dwellers survived and those that arrived to the Himalayan (and Andes) areas were known as the Aryan Race and with them they brought the gifts of the Vedas. Developed over 3,000 years ago, originating with the Zero concept and the Decimal System, it has become a highly intelligent and sophisticated system of mathematical Short Cuts. E.g.: To find the reciprocal of 19, in decimal form, the high-school student is required to labor with 35 lines of working out going down the page, and is bound to make a mistake, as you are required to know your 19 Times table; whereas in India today, a teenage student can accomplish this 18 digit solution in one swift, horizontal and elegant line of arithmetic, in one line, whereas, today, we need a computer to divide 1 by 19.
